South Dakota Farm Bureau


Our Purpose

Farm Bureau is an independent, non-governmental, voluntary organization of farm and ranch families united for the purpose of analyzing their problems and formulating action to achieve education improvements, economic opportunity and social advancement and, thereby, to promote the national well being.

Farm  Bureau is local, county, state national and international in its scope and influence and is non-partisan, non-sectarian and non-secret in character.  Farm Bureau is the voice of agricultural producers at all levels.


Our Mission

South Dakota Farm Bureau is a grassroots, independent, non-governmental federation made of 47 County Farm Bureaus representing 10,000 voluntary member families affiliated with  American Farm Bureau Federation.

We exist to improve the political, social, economic, and personal status of South Dakota farm and ranch families.  We believe in sound economy in the ag community and government.  We encourage meeting the needs of members through the provision of beneficial services.

We believe in the grassroots method of developing policy.  We believe in reduced government intervention and regulation. We strive to improve the social and economic standards of farmers.  We maintain a fundamental belief in God, family, and country.

An organization founded on a fundamental belief in God.

A non governmental, independent, farm-family organization whose purpose is to represent farmers.

An organization owned and controlled by its farmer-members.

An organization dedicated to the private competitive enterprise system.

An organization which deals in issues and ideas rather than personalities.

An organization which prefers to devote its energies to the positive positions and to its own programs.

An organization which recognizes the need for farmer cooperatives, commodity associations, agricultural agencies, and special agricultural groups.

An organization sensitive to member and public opinion with a definite procedure for developing and changing policy.
