The first episode of America’s Heartland, a new national television series on American agriculture, will be broadcast at 4 p.m. CDT, 3 p.m. MDT, on October 9th on the S.D. Public Broadcasting television stations.
This weeks program will feature two South Dakota stories. The Corn Palace, which has helped put Mitchell, S.D. on the map has been attracting tourists for more than a century.
Also featured will be the homestead farm of Frank Soukup of Wagner. The Soukup Century Farm was homesteaded in 1870 and is owned and operated by Tom and Linda Soukup.
The second program includes a feature on Freeman’s Smeckfest and will air October 16th.
“America’s Heartland is intended to portray the miracle of modern American agriculture” said Scott VanderWal, S.D. Farm Bureau President of Volga. “It will depict the love for the land, the dedication to food production, and focus on traditional American values of family, hard work and independence.”
American Farm Bureau and Monsanto are providing major sponsorship for the weekly series. Additional promotional support is provided by the American Soybean Association, National Corn Growers Association, United Soybean Board and the U.S. Grains Council.
