Century Farms to be Honored at State Fair
Farms and ranches that have been in the same family for at least 100 years are eligible for Century Farm recognition at the 2006 State Fair. The Century Farm ceremony is a joint program of the South Dakota Farm Bureau and the South Dakota Department of Agriculture.
A Century Farm must consist of at least 80 acres of the original family farmland and must have been owned by the same family for a minimum of 100 years. The ceremony at the 2006 State Fair will commemorate those Century Farms that have not been previously honored. More than 2,100 farms and ranches have been honored statewide.
Application deadline is August 20. Application forms can be obtained from the South Dakota Farm Bureau office in Huron, phone 353-8052, or from the South Dakota Department of Agriculture in Pierre, phone 773-3375. The forms must be filled out completely and notarized before being returned to the South Dakota Farm Bureau office, PO Box 1426, Huron.
