Cory Fortune Wins Statewide Discussion Meet

Cory Fortune from Quinn won the statewide Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet contest during the South Dakota Farm Bureau convention in Spearfish.  Fortune will represent South Dakota at the National YF&R Discussion Meet in January at the American Farm Bureau Federation meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Discussion Meet is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each contestant. The competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Topics at the state level dealt with the effects of animal ID on U.S. agriculture, and the effect of current land prices on production agriculture.

Fortune receives a $500 cash award for winning at the state level.  Winner of the national contest will receive a 2007 Dodge pickup.  Three runners-up will each receive a $6000 savings bond and a Farm Boss Chain Saw, courtesy of Stihl Outdoor Power Equipment.
