Purchase of the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern (DM&E) rail line by Canadian Pacific Railway Limited is good news for South Dakota agriculture, says South Dakota Farm Bureau Federation President Scott VanderWal.  “The agreement helps place DM&E in a more advantageous position to secure the capital needed to upgrade and expand their line.” 

“Upgrade of the DM&E line has been a priority for the SD Farm Bureau for almost ten years,” VanderWal noted.  “Having access to a Class I railroad is vital to Midwestern agriculture.  This announcement indicates progress toward the goal of better rail service for agriculture and the entire state.”
