Josh Geigle from Creighton won the
statewide Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet contest
during the South Dakota Farm Bureau convention in Pierre.
Geigle will represent South Dakota at the National YF&R
Discussion Meet in January at the American Farm Bureau
Federation meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The
Discussion Meet is designed to simulate a committee meeting
where discussion and active participation are expected from
each contestant. The competition is evaluated on an exchange
of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. This
year’s topics deal with property rights, global issues,
public perception of the family farm, and increasing demands
for water.
Geigle
receives a $500 cash award for winning at the state level.
Winner of the national contest will receive a 2008 Dodge Ram
2500 pickup. Three runners-up will each receive a $6000
savings bond and a Farm Boss Chain Saw, courtesy of Stihl
