SD Farm Bureau Scholarships Awarded
Students from Gettysburg, Tripp,
and Wasta have been selected as winners of the 2008 SD Farm
Bureau Scholarships. Sarah Nagel of Gettysburg, Cheryl Bietz of
Tripp, and Mark Trask of Wasta were selected from 25 applicants
for the $1,000 scholarships. “Farm Bureau is honored to be able
to provide these scholarships to such outstanding South Dakota
youth,” said Mike Held, SDFB CEO.
Nagel is the daughter of James and
RoseAnn Nagel. She graduated from Gettysburg High School in
2005 and is currently in the Pharmacy program at South Dakota
State University. She is active in several on-campus
organizations, including serving as College of Pharmacy Senator
for the SDSU Student Association. Sarah maintains a 4.0 grade
point average, has taught 6th grade religious
education, and has worked with the 4-H Extension program.
Bietz is the daughter of Wayne and
Tammy Beitz. After graduating from Tripp-Delmont High School,
she plans to attend South Dakota State University this fall,
majoring in pre-chiropractic. She is involved in chorus, band,
and the all-school play, and is on the volleyball and basketball
teams, as well as serving as football statistician for four
years. She is currently student council and senior class
president, and has consistently been on the Honor Roll. In
addition, she served as a 2008 Legislative Page and is involved
in church activities and 4-H.
Trask is the son of Tom and Shelia
Trask. He is active in FFA, Wrestling, Football, Rodeo, FCA,
and Student Council, and has received numerous academic honors.
He will graduate from Philip High School this spring, and plans
to attend South Dakota State University this fall, majoring in
ag business.
The SDFB scholarship fund was
started by an initial endowment from Richard and Agnes Ekstrum,
long-time Farm Bureau members from Kimball.
